What is TN Pharma Forti-Lipid and what is it used for?

OLECOL® olive tree extract.

Clinically proven efficacy

The benefits of OLECOL® have been evaluated and demonstrated in three clinical studies. In all cases, the dual action of the active ingredient was demonstrated: improvement of blood lipid control in subjects with hypercholesterolemia and overweight and confirmation of antioxidant properties.

Blood lipid control

A 12-month randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was designed to study the effects of a daily dose of 250 mg of OLECOL® on subjects with elevated cholesterol levels. Olecol® showed a significant effect on blood lipid levels after the 12-month intervention. LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were significantly reduced in the Olecol® group compared with the placebo group. In addition, a significant difference was shown in the total cholesterol/HDL ratio between the Olecol® group and the placebo group. This ratio predicts the subject's risk of developing atherosclerosis and, by extension, cardiovascular disease.

A second study was conducted to investigate triglyceride (TG) and TG/HDL-c ratio profiles in overweight subjects. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled 4-week study with a daily dose of 250 mg of Olecol® showed a significantly improved TG/HDL-c ratio in the group receiving Olecol® treatment compared with the placebo group. In addition, triglyceride levels tended to decrease after 4 weeks of supplementation.

Antioxidant properties

An oxidative control study, also conducted with a single 250-mg dose of OLECOL®, measured:

- the oxidative status of blood lipids;

- the circulating levels of metabolites of the extract in the plasma and urine of participants.

Olecol® has been shown to have antioxidant properties and to protect against LDL oxidation. Oxidative stress leads to the production of damaging free radicals. These molecules have been shown to be linked to vascular inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and subsequently to a high prevalence of cardiovascular disease.

Olecol®: what is the mechanism of action?

The mode of action of Olecol® is twofold.

First, olive polyphenols have a unique mechanism of action on cholesterol excretion:

- The liver is stimulated to secrete cholesterol into the bile.

- Cholesterol levels in the bile increase and are subsequently discharged into the duodenum.

- This leads to increased excretion of cholesterol through the feces.

Second, a daily dose of 250 mg of Olecol® has strong antioxidant properties. This leads to protection of HDL [good] cholesterol and limits oxidation of LDL [bad] cholesterol, which is linked to increased risk of CV events.

• ASTAGILE™ Microcapsules: an ingredient with high technological innovation that combines the validity of a well-known molecule such as astaxanthin with the versatility and completeness of spirulina algae, which enables it to increase the production of so-called "good" cholesterol, HDL, and reduce the amount of triglycerides in the blood.
• Berberine: a plant substance already known in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine with great hypolipidemic properties that acts on "bad" cholesterol, LDL, increasing its destruction. It also reduces intestinal absorption of cholesterol and the synthesis of triglycerides.
• Monacolins: are obtained from the fermentation of red rice; their action can reduce the amount of total cholesterol in the blood.
• Rice bran oil: extracted with Octacosanol inside, which is able to reduce the oxidation of LDL and promotes its degradation.
• Vitamins: finally, there are Vitamins C, B5 and folic acid that have antioxidant and fat metabolizing actions.
