Among all, Melannurca specifically showed a particular abundance of procyanidin B2 and a higher content of antioxidants. This variety, as well as some special extracts derived from it, are effective in correcting altered metabolic conditions, improving the glycemic and lipid profile of patients with insulin residence and hypercholesterolemia. Their regular consumption and administration of the extracts by supplementation can reduce LDL and total cholesterol, increase HDL, and thus offer a nutraceutical option for the prevention of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
