The joint represents a region of contact between: bone and bone, cartilage and bone, teeth and bone. Its strength and flexibility depend on its structure; its mobility, on the other hand, depends:
Cartilage is the part that lines the bones where there are joints and has a protective role of the bones themselves, supporting them to resist continuous movement. Cartilage is made up of water (about 60 percent), collagen (about 30 percent) and sugars and proteins (the remaining 10 percent) and has considerable elasticity to play the role of shock absorbers between joints. In order for cartilage to play its role effectively, it is necessary for it to have key elements such as:
The human body has about 400 joints, and all of them serve to give mobility and flexibility to the body but are also potential sources of pain. Joint pain, which occurs mainly (but not exclusively) with advancing age, is one of the most common health problems.
Moreover, joints, which connect various parts of the body, are complex mechanisms composed of multiple elements, including cartilage, ligaments, membranes, fluids and tissues. Therefore, joint pain can be of various types, have different causes and symptoms, let's analyze them together.
TYPES: Basically, it can be caused by infection or inflammation (ARTHRITIS), or it can result from wear and tear of cartilage (OSTEOARTRITE) or even from an accident or injury.
SYMPTOMS: It may begin for no apparent reason or when a specific movement is made, appear gradually or suddenly, decrease or persist when resting, last for a short time or persist for a long time. It may also be accompanied by several different symptoms that are more or less debilitating: joint stiffness, often after a period of inactivity or in the morning, swelling, redness, feeling of heat in the joint, reduced flexibility, loss of mobility.
CAUSES: Itcan be TRAUMATIC in origin after an accident, INFIAMMATORY when a joint becomes inflamed, MECHANICAL due to wear and tear or deformity, INFECTIVE when triggered by a virus, or CRYSTAL DEPOSIT when caused by diseases such as gout.
In all cases, if the pain is accompanied by swelling or redness, if it worsens and persists, and especially if fever is added to these symptoms, a doctor should be consulted for a product or take collagen supplements to improve joint function with antioxidant action.
Joint discomfort can deprive a person of the ability to do simple things in everyday life.
This is why the TN Pharma Research & Development Team focused on the formulation of FLEXI-FORT, a joint and bone supplement specifically to treat discomfort due to joint pain. Let's see together what it is composed of:
5-loxin® is a special patented extract of Boswellia serrata, an Indian tree with long-recognized therapeutic properties. In Africa and Asia, for example, natural extracts of Boswellia serrata are traditionally used to relieve inflammatory pain primarily affecting the joints, including that associated with arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, but also to treat other conditions such as asthma and some inflammatory bowel diseases.
But what are the benefits this powerful extract generates?
The benefits derive from its exceptional content in boswellic and pentacyclic acids, principles whose mechanism of action is the inhibition of the pro-inflammatory enzyme 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), a key enzyme in the cellular inflammatory cascade, which leads to the production of leukotrienes from arachidonic acid. As a result, joint pain is reduced, ability and speed of movement are improved.
Benefiting from this action are virtually all categories from athletes to the elderly to those suffering from arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
5-Loxin® has the advantage of being standardized to 30 percent acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA), is free of side effects, therefore, is a safe raw material. For maximum effectiveness, it should be taken preferably with food.
We chose to use it in our FLEXI-FORT because it is an active ingredient already at low dosages, and its effects can be appreciated as early as 7 days after the first intake with a dose of only 100 mg of the product. Its effects can be enhanced by combining it with other natural anti-inflammatory agents.
In addition to improvements in joint comfort and flexibility, 5-LOXIN also has a positive impact on biological markers associated with joint health and inflammation, including TNFa, CRP, and IL-6. It has also been shown to significantly inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-3), the enzymes that destroy cartilage, collagen, and connective tissues.
MSM is short for the name of a molecule, methylsulfonylmethane, a source of organic sulfur naturally occurring in many mammals and a variety of plants. This source is of great interest because organic sulfur is bioavailable, that is, it can be assimilated and utilized by the body and plays a key role in the human body: it is, for example, part of the composition of certain amino acids and thus in a large number of proteins; it is a key element in the constitution of joint cartilage and connective tissues such as the dermis of the skin; in other words, it contributes to the overall well-being of the body.
OptiMSM® is a patented ingredient and represents a new form of MSM of high purity and greater activity than the more common form.
It turns out to be useful as a remedy for the treatment of osteoarthritis, and not by accident! In fact, a variety of studies have confirmed the benefits of this compound in relieving joint pain related to osteoarthritis. Common in people over the age of 65, osteoarthritis is a joint disease characterized by the progressive destruction of cartilage. To counteract this phenomenon, OptiMSM® has a dual benefit: first, its anti-inflammatory activity relieves joint pain, and second, it promotes natural collagen synthesis.
The joint benefits of OptiMSM® are not limited to the treatment of osteoarthritis. On the contrary, they may also be of great interest to athletes: in addition to the benefits for joint wellness and protection, a variety of studies show that it may have advantages in improving physical recovery and limiting the risk of injury and muscle pain. Some researchers suggest that these beneficial effects may be related to potential antioxidant activity.
The organic sulfur that is released after taking OptiMSM® is reused by our body for the synthesis of two key amino acids: cysteine and methionine; these amino acids are involved in the composition of keratin and collagen and contribute to the maintenance of dermis and skin and, at the joint level, also to the synthesis of chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine and hyaluronic acid. It thus seems clear that it also plays a critical role in maintaining the stability and integrity of connective tissue and its proteins.
One of the benefits of this interesting ingredient is that it acts as a "natural lubricant," promotes joint comfort and helps relieve pain associated with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. It is, in addition, also effective in cases of chronic joint pain, muscle pain, tendonitis and bursitis.
The most decisive action OptiMSM® exerts on cytokines, markers of inflammation, associated with cartilage degradation, since it reduces the expression of these pro-inflammatory cytokines and that of enzymes that degrade cartilage. It thus acts as a barrier, protecting cartilage in the early stages of osteoarthritis and other degenerative injuries induced by inflammatory cytokines and cartilage-degrading enzymes.
Finally, we have also chosen to include OptiMSM® in our FLEXI-FORT because of its purity as it is completely free of heavy metal residues, impurities and contaminants, thanks to a four-step distillation performed only by heat and without the use of potent solvents.
Tests performed on each batch attest to the absence of potential allergens. Thus, OptiMSM® is certified kosher, halal, and guaranteed gluten-free and GMO-free.
A newly developed ingredient, a source of bioavailable, microencapsulated curcumin, due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, may be useful in the natural treatment of arthritic and arthrosic pathology. Arthrosis is a chronic and progressive degenerative joint disease, typical of advanced age and unfortunately responsible for a rapid and inexorable decline in quality of life.
The importance of the use of Curcushine™ Microcapsules in the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis, and more generally of inflammatory states, is based on a series of experimental evidences characterizing the molecular activity of the curcumin contained. It, in fact, acts at various levels on certain factors that are altered when inflammation due to osteoarthritis is ongoing.
Curcumin itself would appear, again in the course of osteoarthritis, to preserve the cartilage structure from progressive processes of damage, sustained by the damaging action of reactive oxygen species. More precisely, an appreciable reduction in the expression of metalloproteases, proteolytic enzymes deputed to the remodeling of the extracellular matrix, and directly involved in the pathogenesis of arthrosis, would be observed.
The use of Curcushine™ Microcapsules, especially in combination with glucosamine,
The intrinsic biological value of the components of Curcushine™ Microcapsules is complemented by the technological value with which the raw material was made: thanks to microencapsulation, in fact, it shows a pharmacokinetic profile of slow release of curcumin, which translates into higher bioavailability. All this allows for greater absorption of curcumin, greater protection from oxidative stress, and greater solubility in an aqueous environment that facilitates its absorption.
It has long been known that Devil's Claw extracts exert analgesic, antiphlogistic and anti-arthritic activities. The phytocomplex is now used in the symptomatic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and in osteoarthritis, osteoarthritis, and other rheumatic diseases. The activity of this plant is mainly referred to harpagoside, which is the active present in the greatest quantity in it; however, as with most plants, the administration of the single active ingredient does not exactly reproduce the activity observed with the phytocomplex in toto, moreover, it has recently been discovered that other compounds present in the Devil's Claw phytocomplex also show inhibitory activity in the expression of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), an enzyme involved in inflammatory processes. Anti-inflammatory power is also exerted topically, due to a high diffusion of the active at the transcutaneous level.
The most credited mechanism of action for this ingredient is inhibition of COX-2 and inhibition of iNOS expression, which are two enzymes: the former leads to the release of prostaglandins (which are mediators of inflammation), the latter to the release of Nitric Oxide. When these two pathways are inhibited by Devil's Claw, a powerful antiphlogistic action is achieved.
Claw is also attributed with antirheumatic action but it is hypothesized to be by a different mechanism than that of common nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). For this reason, the use of Claw is not complicated by the gastrointestinal side effects typical of NSAIDs.
Finally, Devil's Claw is also effective in cases of:
Glucosamine is an important sugar for the synthesis of several natural substances, such as sugars, lipids, and proteins. Glucosamine is also a component of keratin sulfate and hyaluronic acid, which are also found in articular cartilage and joint lubricating (synovial) fluid. It is either produced from crustacean shells or by fermentation of grain, or synthesized in the laboratory.
There are several forms of it: glucosamine sulfate, glucosamine hydrochloride, and N-acetylglucosamine. Since the sulfate group is important for cartilage production, glucosamine sulfate is considered more effective than other types of glucosamine that do not contain it.
As an important precursor of essential components of articular cartilage (proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans, GAGs), glucosamine helps to keep cartilage intact, a tissue that acts as a shock-absorbing cushion by protecting the articular ends of bones from friction.
In osteoarthritis and arthritis, cartilage is normally thinned or torn.
Glucosamine sulfate, alone or in combination with chondroitin and/or other components, such as methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), is widely used for the treatment of osteoarthritis and, more generally, to relieve joint pain and stiffness.
Several properties are attributed to it, including strengthening joints and helping to preserve the structure and degree of elasticity of cartilage, relieve pain, and improve joint function. Glucosamine administration has been shown to result in the inhibition of type II collagen degradation and an increase in collagen synthesis, stimulating the production of new cartilage tissue.
All of these ingredients carefully and thoughtfully chosen by experts in the field are capable of acting in depth and increasing their potency, working in synergy to enable fast recovery and achievement of joint wellness. This enables a lifestyle improvement that is achieved through a safe and effective GLUTEN-FREE certified joint supplement.
